Century Plant in Chase, Kansas

26 June 2013 Century Plant NOTE:

This Century_Plant_page has needed closure and I've made the decision to do that by sharing an observation during visits after 12 July 2012. To me, it offers an unexpected sense of serenity to the finality.

This note will update when the referenced set of photos posts. Filling in some remaining "Later" gaps may follow eventually.

Current hot weather is encouraging a rapid rate of blooming. So much amazing new growth makes
picking the best pictures a challenge. The five shown here zoom in on the same lower branch
that is featured 15 June (second row) but from the opposite (west) side of the plant.

19 June 2012

An especially windy day! Shortly after 8 am, the left (east) brace broke loose from the orange pole.
The local bucket truck returned quickly to upright the plant from its temporary 45 degree position
and add two more braces (yellow and orange) higher up on the stalk.

This branch fell today. It can be seen hanging in a 20 June
picture above (upper row-middle, right of stalk). It is like wood
and unexpectedly heavy. The shape is oval rather than round.

Farley employee Jimmy Bass offered to contact his friend Gary Foulger, the local bucket truck owner who has helped with recent Chase Century Plant stabilizations. Gary arrived soon to help allow this series of pictures from as high as approximately forty-five feet. The sight from ground level is extraordinary but the otherwise unseen view from the top reveals even more beauty.

9 July 2012 There may still be a few buds that are not yet open at the top.

10 July 2012 Cloudy conditions made distinct pictures difficult,
but various angles seem to confirm that the plant top is in full bloom.

show one bud partially open with open buds surrounding it.
